It has long been a stigma that only women participate in cosmetic surgery; however, we all know that is not the case, especially as we hit 2021 running. Humans all want to maintain a particularly attractive appearance, which extends past just dressing nice. Men are no exception to this, as we have all seen plenty at the gym or talking about nutrients, and even some exploring topicals to stay looking young. However, like many topics of conversations that seem taboo for men to speak about, cosmetic surgery has ranked high on that list.
A new report in 2019 showed that more than 1.3 million cosmetic procedures were performed in 2018 on men alone! Much like the “mommy makeover,” the “daddy-do-over” consists of surgical and nonsurgical body contouring and facial procedures. Top cosmetic procedures for men include liposuction, gynecomastia, blepharoplasty, dermal fillers, and nonsurgical procedures like CoolSculpting.
Liposuction and CoolSculpting are the body contouring portion of the do-over. Men are usually looking for broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and no hips. They want to get rid of unwanted fat and enhance their muscles. As we age, both men and women find it harder to lose and maintain a certain weight. Both procedural options can eliminate many fat cells from the body to help achieve the desired figure. This can be done on the abdomen, arms, thighs, and even on your back. For men, aging is the biggest reason that stubborn fat accumulates, along with diet and lack of exercise. For a quick solution, these procedures have become the perfect alternative.
An area that may seem like only women would receive cosmetic surgery has also gone up with men. Gynecomastia surgery or male breast reduction has been on the rise as fat accumulates under the pectorals. This can happen due to reduced male hormones or increased female hormones. Again, puberty, medication, or health conditions can affect this, which would cause breast tissue swelling and tenderness. Although this can go away on its own those, who aren’t that lucky turn to this to have the tissue removed through small incisions. Liposuction may be performed for improvement in contouring but not always necessary. Full recovery is just 4 to 5 weeks, similar to non-gynecomastia liposuction.
Another popular 2021 trend in male cosmetic surgery is rhinoplasty or blepharoplasty surgery, which improves the face’s appearance. Rhinoplasty is a more common procedure involving the readjustment of the bone and cartilage underneath your skin to change your nose’s shape. Blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery to correct upper eyelid or under-eye concerns. By tightening the muscle or removing small pockets of stubborn fat, your surgeon helps restore a more youthful look.
Whether it is the face, upper body, lower body, or back, cosmetic surgery is not tied to a specific gender. Male cosmetic surgery trends are on the rise with the need to reach their version of perfection. If you are looking for a daddy-do-over, or just not ready to look like a father, talk to your doctor about what procedures would best suit your needs.
